The DOD made public its 2023 Cyber Strategy which reveals a new emphasis on helping U.S. partners and allies build their own cyber capacity.

U.S. Cyber Command’s Cyber National Mission Force recently concluded their second defensive hunt operation to Lithuania, building upon relationships and experiences from their previous deployment to the country in May 2022. U.S. cyber operators spent months alongside their counterparts from Lithuania’s Information Technology and Communications Department, part of the country’s Ministry of the Interior. The teams analyzed key networks, identified and prioritized by the partner, for evidence of malicious cyber activity while identifying vulnerabilities.

Maintaining a robust defense against emerging cyberthreats requires collaboration and cooperation throughout the Defense Department and across industry partners, a top Pentagon information security executive said.

The timing of the Defense Department budget continues to pose problems as the U.S. must be in a position to move quickly to assist with wars and humanitarian crises around the globe, the undersecretary of defense comptroller and chief financial officer said.
